Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria for consideration for this scholarship:
*Must be a US citizen. Preference is given but not limited to residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester Counties. International, foreign exchange, and doctoral program students are not eligible;
*Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited institution within South Carolina, with a minimum of 12 graded hours of classes as an undergraduate or 9 graded hours of classes as a graduate student;
*Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
*Must be currently pursuing a degree in horticulture, agriculture, agronomy, botany, city planning, floriculture, land management, landscape architecture, plant pathology, historic preservation, or other plant/gardening-related disciplines.
SELECTION CRITERIA
All applications received by The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. (TGCC) Scholarship Chairman will be judged by that chairman and a committee of seven in order to choose the winning applications. This committee will be made up of the following members: 1st Vice President, Treasurer, Charitable Fund Treasurer, member of the finance committee, and three at-large members.

The Garden Club of Charleston, Inc. will notify all applicants in writing of the committee’s decision on or before March 15, 2024. Recipients will be honored at the May general membership meeting. Applicants who continue to maintain a 3.0 or higher average are encouraged to apply next year.
DESCRIPTION OF FUNDS
Scholarships will be determined annually by the finance committee and are subject to the availability of funds. The award amount for the 2024-2025 school year is two (2) $1500.00 scholarships. Checks for the chosen applicants will be mailed to the Financial Aid Office of the institution where the student is enrolled in mid-July. No funds will be sent directly to the student.
All funds will be distributed by the Financial Aid Office according to the particular school’s term system unless the student has only one term remaining before completion of the program. In the event a student withdraws or transfers from their original school, the balance of the funds must be returned to TGCC. No funds will be distributed to another university until the balance remaining has been received.
APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE- February 1, 2024. All applications must be received online by that date.
The award will consist of two (2) $1500.00 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year.
